The ongoing ISO 9001 revision explicitly incorporates AI use in the QMS. It's not a soft recommendation: certification bodies will assess how your system leverages data for predictive analysis, continuous improvement and nonconformity control.
Three areas where AI moves the needle
- Evidence capture: automatic records from ERPs and production systems, with immutable traceability.
- Predictive analytics: models that detect deviations before they escalate to NCRs.
- Knowledge management: natural-language access to procedures for the whole team.
What to do now
- Inventory the systems from which you can capture evidence automatically.
- Identify the controls where a model could anticipate deviations.
- Define AI governance policies (bias, traceability, human-in-the-loop).
You don't need to wait for the new standard. Companies that start today will arrive with a 12-18 month head start.
